"Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to
your life?... Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry
about itself." Matthew 6: 24-36
Why didn’t someone in Church or my family tell me about
this Bible verse 60 years ago?
I have always been a worrier. I grew up worrying, and
that’s probably why I had my stroke last year. But now retired, I am trying to
stop worrying about everything. I have to, for my health’s sake. I am having
some success.
We just sold our house of 22 years and moved into a rental
to give ourselves time to consider the next step in life. At first, I worried
about how we would empty all our accumulated stuff and where would we put it.
That just pushed the stress-o-matic button in my brain,
and I wound up sick in bed, not able to move anything. That didn’t help the
situation, so I took my medicine and slept for two days, that allowed me to think
about nothing.
Awake I had a plan. We rented a storage unit near by,
hired some friends and guys looking for work. We called and asked our church if they had
any persons needing a quick, short-term job helping us. Plus, my daughter and
her husband spent their week of vacation finishing up the jobs. Less stress for
me and I got to spend time playing with my grandkids as a bonus.
I want to live more and worry less. So should you.
